Thredbo is gearing up to host the Thredbo Jazz, Funk and Groove Festival  – a new take on the old Thredbo Jazz Festival. It will take place over three music filled days on 15 – 17 April…and local operators are getting excited about it.

“As Thredbo’s longest running music festival The Thredbo Jazz Festival has entertained music fans for close to a quarter of a century. But with a growing demand from both a younger audience and younger players to broaden the musical reach of this Thredbo institution, festival organisers have responded with a new take  – and so the Thredbo Jazz, Funk and Groove Festival is born,” said Ian Foster, General Manager of The Lantern Property Group which operates Lantern Apartments, Lhotsky Apartments and Snow Stream Apartments amongst others.

“The festival will entertain both long time jazz fans and new with a broad range of music from the traditional and mainstream styles that have made Thredbo’s name , to the jazz fusion and funk styles whose high energy keeps the dance floor busy way into the early hours.

“As usual Thredbo will play a starring role hosting gigs in venues all over the village including at the top of the mountain, village restaurants, night clubs and outdoor venues,” Ian said.

Ian says April is such a great time of year to visit the snowies. The weather is mild with fresh autumn air and the festival falls nicely between the heat of summer and before the winter snowfalls blanket the mountains.

“We get a good musical following down here in the mountains with both the Jazz festival and Blues Festival being big drawcards outside of the ski season.  And the festival is a perfect time to bring the family for a snowies getaway.

“People love coming to Thredbo’s music festivals because they can park their car for the weekend and walk between all of the gigs. The village turns into a jazz town for the weekend and the atmosphere grows and grows – by Sunday night it is a jamming free for all as festival fans and bands party into the early hours,” he continued.

To coincide with the three day Jazz Funk and Groove festival the Lantern Property Group is offering visitors a number of special accommodation and ticket packages to take advantage of this fantastic weekend.  Packages start from just $310 per person twin share and include three nights’ accommodation staying in a Lantern one bedroom apartment, a weekend festival pass and scenic chairlift rides – that’s three nights for the price of two!

The festival is organised by the Thredbo Chamber of Commerce. Full line up details will be released in late February.
