MEDIA RELEASE – 21 September 2010

Canberra’s nationally award winning markets, the Old Bus Depot Markets, have introduced a brand new theme day which focuses on green alternatives for everyday life. The inaugural ‘Green Savvy Sunday’ will be held on Sunday 17 October 2010.

“Green Savvy Sunday was developed in response to feedback from our market customers and stallholders who wanted to have better access to information and products that helped them develop a more sustainable lifestyle and reduce their impact on the environment,” said Old Bus Depot Markets co-owner, Diane Hinds.

“The themes of recycle, reuse and low use of energy are things we all want to strive for. Green Savvy Sunday stalls will feature green products and displays to inspire and entice, as well as people to answer customers’ questions, and loads of green information,” she continued.

Green Savvy Sunday will include recycled and UPcycled fashion, food and wine with an organic winery onsite, craft made from recycled materials and skin care products. Experts will also give advice on green products and services, and there’s even a mobile phone drop-off point to safely dispose of unwanted mobiles.

For those keen on learning more, the markets will feature an all day speakers program called Green Savvy Speakers, headlined by famed author and sustainability guru, Jackie French. Her three presentations will teach you how to grow everything (except chocolate), how to take forty years to make your breakfast, and death to the three minute shower.
