Media Release – 27 October 2011

Yup, it’s a little scary, but yes, Christmas is coming! With now less than two months until the big day, Canberra’s Old Bus Depot Markets has their little Christmas elves busy for what will be some fantastic Christmas markets in 2011.

The popular markets will be open every Saturday and Sunday in the lead up to Christmas, promising original, handmade gifts for your loved ones, and all within a vibrant market buzzing with the Christmas spirit.

“With the first in our series of Christmas markets taking place on Saturday 3 December, the markets are a great alternative to crowded shopping malls. It’s how Christmas shopping should be – handmade, unique gifts made with thought,” said Old Bus Depot Markets co-owner, Diane Hinds.

“Our Christmas Markets always offer a wonderfully festive atmosphere with friendly stallholders getting into the spirit, live music and the scents of shortbread and mince tarts wafting throughout.

“And this year we’re opening on Christmas Eve too which is a great opportunity to do last minute shopping for loved ones,” she continued.

At the Christmas Markets visitors can browse and buy beautifully handcrafted, personalised home wares and gifts, scrumptious Christmas fare such as gingerbread houses, cakes and cherries, gifts for the table and the tree, exquisite hand carved decorations, live Christmas trees, art, soaps and plenty of stocking stuffers.

This year, new stallholders will present their own take on popular Christmas items including handmade Christmas stockings and advent calendars, Christmas wreaths, brooches and table centres. Foodies will love the spread available including beautifully decorated Christmas sugar cookies, mince tarts, shortbread, Christmas cakes, puddings, pan forte, whisky marmalade, traditional Russian fruit and walnut log and macarons inspired by the flavours of Christmas.
