It’s literally freezing here in Canberra this week, snow on the mountains and plenty of icy cold rain but we are warming up with great marketing ideas in this month’s WRAP. In July we found out the future of Instagram, strangely from Twitter 😕, looked at a positive take on a cookie-less world ⛔🍪🌎 and were inspired to engage with Generation Z a little more. We continue to also follow the story of the Big Bird Bandits (yep its talked a lot about at Threesides!) – this episode is about media training!

Head of Instagram CREATES CONFUSION ABOUT PLATFORMS FUTURE

Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram announced this month (on Twitter!) that Instagram is shifting away from a photo sharing app with their future focus directly on four areas: creators, videos, shopping and messaging. Initial reaction from Insta users was a bit of confusion but its all part of moving the platform to be about entertainment not just photos.

Finding your audience in a third-party Cookie-less world

While browsing online in recent months, you’ve probably noticed more websites are asking for your permission to track your activity with cookies. In 2020, Apple’s Safari became the first mainstream browser to block third-party cookies as a default, and Google has also announced that they will be doing the same with Chrome in 2022.

So how will we know what our online audience is interested in to ensure our advertising is as relevant as possible? Although our agenda hasn’t changed to provide marketing that is proven to show results, we also know that it can’t be driven by data alone. So it was refreshing to read a positive opinion piece about the recent changes from an up and coming marketer, Illinois based Mikayla Mitchell, who has put her focus back on personas and personalisation in PPCHero.

SPROUT SOCIAL’s TAKE ON MARKETING to GEN Z

Ten tips from Sprout Social this month on how to market to Generation Z, Gen Zers or Gen Z. The ideas themselves are probably not surprising to you e.g. it needs to be eye catching and interactive, but some good examples of how to to apply the principles are included for inspiration. And if you were wondering, the Threesides Gen Zs voted Nutella Pancakes!I!.

BEST EXAMPLE OF MEDIA TRAINING GOES TO THE BIG BIRD BANDITS

We are not sure who should get the award for best media training – the journalist who thought to ask “Can you tell me how to get to Sesame Street?” or the Big Bird Bandits that kept a straight face when posed with the question we all want to know. Congrats Emily Cosenza for bringing us the most important news of the month.
