The best thing about the first day of winter? It’s the inaugural Australia’s National Pie Day. This coming Monday 1 June will see Australians all over the country hold their pies high…oh and also it marks the beginning of Pie Time in the NSW Southern Highlands (Pie-lands.)

Australia’s Pie-Minister, Robert ‘Dipper’ DiPIErdomenico is encouraging all Australians to buy a pie, order a pie, bake a pie, share a pie recipe, take part in the Pie Time in Pie-solation virtual events starting Monday, and for those in NSW to visit the Southern Highlands and take part in the great Pie Trail.

“The 1st of June, by an interesting turn of events after what we have all experienced over the last few months, is the first day of eased travel restrictions for NSW. So, we are looking forward to welcoming visitors back to the Southern Pie-lands for the best pies in Australia,” said Steve Rosa, Group Manager Tourism and Economic Development, at Destination Southern Highlands.

“All our local pie makers, bakeries, cafes and restaurants have really missed the trade over the last few months, first with the summer bushfires, and more recently due to the Covid-19 pandemic. They look forward to giving visitors a taste of Southern Highlands’ famous pies and hospitality,” Steve continued.

“But if they can’t get to the Highlands, as we know that many of us are just starting to emerge from hibernation, they can still take part in our Pie Time in Pie-solation online virtual events taking place every day through until 7th June,” Steve concluded.
