We all know a picture tells a thousand words, and now more than ever visual storytelling has become a cornerstone of effective content marketing.
Visual content significantly outperforms text-only marketing in terms of engagement with the latest reports explaining that the human brain processes visuals 60,000 times faster than text. Data also tells us that when users engage with video content, they are 80% more likely to purchase from a brand.
High quality images and video are essential for maintaining professionalism, credibility and brand recognition. They enhance visual appeal and keep brand messaging strong and in focus (literally and figuratively), with the end goal often being brand awareness, engagement, lead generation or sales.
Here are our top five reasons you should use video and high-quality photos strategically in your marketing mix:
- Increased engagement.
- Improved SEO rankings.
- Higher conversion rates.
- Better brand recognition.
- Improved user experience.
We love helping our clients create some visual magic (and I love spending my days on photo and video shoots), but before we pick up a camera or get a film crew, there are some important things to consider in the photo and video shoot process:
1. Define your goals and your audience:
Align your photo or video to your business goals, ensuring it matches the broader objectives, whether it’s brand awareness, sales or education. And identify your audience. This is importance to ensure that the messaging and style is tailored to their interest, behaviours and pain points.
2. Develop your strategy:
Here, you’ll consider the content type and frequency, look at platforms and formats and create a distribution plan. When thinking about your strategy, consider long and short form content, website images, social media reels or carousel posts, YouTube videos, a brand or service overview.
3. Find your people:
When you’re preparing a photo or video shoot for your brand, one of the most important elements is the people. Once you know your audience, goals and strategies, it’s time to focus on the people – who is going to appear in the photos or footage? If you’re doing interviews, who will be the spokesperson? Many brands and organisations require talent release forms, so preparing this in advance is key to ensuring a smooth day and making sure the people are prepped and ready. We can help you prepare talking points, questions and scripts, as well as give advice on brand positioning and little tips and tricks like what to wear (or not wear).
4. Write your script and prep your run sheet:
Developing a brief and run sheet for everyone involved is essential to ensuring that every shot is captured and all messages are considered. When we prepare your run sheet, you might find things like mood boards, detailed shot lists, scripts and interview questions, any equipment or props needed for the day, specific shots or words to use or avoid, and a list of formats and outputs.
5. Shoot day!
With the proper preparation complete, whether you are shooting content yourself or have a production team on board, we help to make sure everything is as smooth as possible. Shoot days are fast paced and high energy, but the pre-planning makes sure that your brand story is told in the best way.
6. Add your brand elements:
This is crucial for brand recognition. Getting your colour schemes, typography, logos and design elements right will make sure that people seeing your content are connecting, that you’re building brand presence and you’re recognisable across all mediums. Want to know our stance on the power of building your brand? Hear more of our thoughts on that from our blog from a few months ago.
7. Delivery:
You might be updating your digital advertising, building a library of images to use on social media, updating your website, running a seasonal campaign, creating a brand awareness video, or all of the above. Once the photos or videos are captured, edited and exported, they are ready to be shared across your platforms.
Threesides Marketing loves bringing brands to life
This year we’ve worked on some super inspiring video campaigns. Check some of them out:
Menslink: Silence is Deadly
A multi-day shoot, this one was a photo and video shoot that was executed to capture content for TV commercials, brand awareness videos, website banners, social media tiles, digital ads and printing collateral (think flyers and pull-up banners).
Barnardos: Have The Heart To Start
Ever wanted more information on what Foster Care entails? All you really need to start, is the heart. This video shoot saw multiple videos created to help tell people’s stories, create connection and share information about the brand’s mission and purpose.
Northside Community Services
This sweet video is a great example of how you can use video to create connection and showcase your brand’s visuals and values
Hepatitis ACT
This single-day shoot involved multiple talents in the one location to help promote World Hepatitis Day 2025 and Hepatitis ACT’s messaging around awareness, prevention, testing and treatment. Drawing on insights from Hepatitis ACT, a health practitioner and someone with lived experience of Hepatitis, several videos were created promoting the Good Liver, Good Life campaign for use across the media, website, social, vehicles and outdoor signage.
