The new RUC in Canberra’s inner north suburb of Turner was today officially unveiled by the ACT Chief Minister, Andrew Barr. The opening has come after months of major renovations which have resulted in a refreshed, reinvigorated bowls club for the Canberra community.

“Two years on from the merger of two of Canberra’s oldest smallest clubs, the RUC has reinvented itself for the modern hospitality market. There has been an emphasis on relevance and updating the club to suit the changing market and needs of the local community,” says The RUC President, David Polglase.

“The merger between Canberra North Bowling Club and ACT RUC has worked very well across the last four years, and the refresh unveiled today will provide a welcoming venue for members and their guests to socialise, enjoy sporting and hospitality services, and provides great support and contribution to the local community,” David continued.

The RUC Secretary Manager, Jeremy Wilcox, says the club now has new, more relevant spaces, including a large outdoor deck, raised lounge area and double-sided fireplace, a new entry and reception area, a café, configurable function spaces and renovated bathrooms including a new powder room for the ladies.

“We have this great location here in Turner, but we had ageing infrastructure, so we wanted to update and remain relevant to the local community of Canberra’s inner north,” Jeremy said.

“And the changes have not only been physical ones, the RUC also has new weekly events on offer, a new Head Chef with over 15 years’ experience in Canberra’s top restaurants, hotels and clubs, a new menu and a more relaxed approach to our staff’s dress code,” Jeremy continues.

The ACT Chief Minister today unveiled the new RUC, before trying out a spot of lawn bowls with some local bowlers himself. With the renewal of Canberra’s gateway, Northbourne Avenue, currently underway, there are many exciting opportunities for businesses in the area to capitalise on the renewal process.

“It is extremely positive to see such major investment in the club, especially given the work going on in the area which will see a boost in the surrounding population” said Chief Minister, Andrew Barr.
