MARKETS CLOSED THIS SUNDAY 9TH FEBRUARY DUE TO STORM DAMAGE

mediawire by February 4, 2020

Canberra’s Old Bus Depot Markets regret to advise that the Markets will be closed for a third consecutive week, this coming Sunday 9th February 2020.

Closure is due to the significant hail damage to the building, sustained in Canberra’s storms on Monday 20th January.

A spokesperson for artsACT has said the Former Transport Depot in Kingston, home of the Markets, is temporarily closed for urgent building works. And that significant damage was caused to the building by the hailstorm on 20th January, with over 220 skylights destroyed. Since then, urgent work has been undertaken to make the building safe and weather-proof.

They also advised today that access to the Markets’ administration office has been reinstated, however access to the remainder of the building (including the food court) is restricted due to significant risk to safety. Rectification works are scheduled to be complete by Monday 10 February.

This means the Markets will be fully operational on Sunday 16th February 2020, failing any major unforeseeable delays, weather being one.

Markets’ organisers wish to thank everyone for their patience and understanding at this time.

Customers and stallholders are advised to stay up to date with the situation via the Markets’ website www.obdm.com.au, Facebook and Instagram.
