Celebrate spring and the joys of gardening in Canberra with local growers at Market in Bloom

Canberra’s favourite farmers Market, Capital Region Farmers Market, is sowing the seeds for what will be a special spring Market to celebrate this glorious time of year and the joys of gardening.

Market in Bloom, which will bring together many local plant growers specialising in plants that are just right for the Canberra environment, will take place at the Market on Saturday 28th  September 2024.

“Spring in Canberra is synonymous with celebrating our annual flower and gardening show, Floriade, and our Market in Bloom event gives a nod to this year’s theme, Art in Bloom,” said Capital Region Farmers Market Manager, Sarah Power.

“Capital Region Farmers Market celebrates 20 years supporting the community this year, and with so many top-quality growers onsite each week, this is one way we can really demonstrate our market is still growing strong!

“Our local expert growers are the best people to provide tailored advice on local plants, and what grows best in the Canberra Region. Plus, these growers absolutely manage everything themselves, so you know you’re really getting the best cold-climate plants, along with the very best tips for growing.

“It’s a great alternative to shopping with major nurseries. All our growers are experts in their own horticultural niches, and love having a chat about the plants they dedicate so much time and care to,” Sarah continued.

Market in Bloom will offer a great variety of plants including cold-climate natives, potted colour, bulbs, herbs and vegetable seedlings, shrubs and trees, as well as some rare and hard to find plants. Growers will include Canberra Native Nursery, Sutton Road Nursery, River Road Nursery, Elswood Rare Plants, Greenhill Farm and Canberra Colour.

“It’s a great opportunity to bring your kids out into the spring sunshine too. We’ll bring the music and fun for the whole family with plenty of kids’ arts and crafts and entertainers Cookie Boo-Boo for the little ones. We can’t wait to welcome Market shoppers along to Market in Bloom,” Sarah concluded.

Market in Bloom will feature watercolour painting for shoppers – an opportunity to paint your own Capital Region Farmers Market postcard celebrating 20 years of supporting the community. There will also be educational stands including from the Rotary Club of Hall about the exciting environmental projects funded by stallholder fees at the Market and who will be handing out gifts of pollinating seeds for your garden.

Market in Bloom is on Saturday 28th September, 7am-11.30am at Exhibition Park in Canberra. For more information, visit www.capitalregionfarmersmarket.com.au
