Canberra’s favourite farmers Market, Capital Region Farmers Market, celebrates 20 years in 2024, and as part of the celebrations is calling on all local cake makers, and just anyone who wants to give it a try, to create themed birthday cakes to celebrate.

“Are you a talented cake maker? Do you fancy yourself as a bit of a cake connoisseur? Or do you just want to have a bit of fun with the family? Then we’d love to hear from you!” said Capital Region Farmers Market Manager, Sarah Power.

“In 2024, we’re celebrating 20 years supporting farmers, makers and producers of the Canberra Region – that’s 20 years providing Canberrans and their families with the best and freshest produce each weekend, and 20 years supporting worthy community projects via our Founders, the Rotary Club of Hall.

“We really want to see what the talented cake makers of the Canberra region can bring to the table by way of celebratory cakes to mark this very special milestone,” Sarah continued.

The Market’s official celebrations will take place at Market on Saturday 16th March 2024, and people of the Canberra region are invited to bake cake creations to the brief of – 20 years of Capital Region Farmers Market.

“Think fresh produce, farmers and the community. You’re only limited by your imagination! And you must be available to bring your cake to Market for the judging on Saturday 16th March 2024,” Sarah continued.

Capital Region Farmers Market will award winning cakes in two categories – the Adult category, and Under 14s category. Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third in each category, as well as a Shopper’s Choice Award voted by our market shoppers. Winners will score Capital Region Farmers Market gift vouchers to be spent with any stallholders, with the total prize pool valued at $1,350.

Sarah says she can’t wait to see what local cake makers will try their hand at.

“Cakes could be anything from a fruit bowl, a farmer out in the field, a basket of freshly picked vegetables, or an ode to Rotary Club of Hall that started the Market 20 years ago – and everything in between. Knowing Canberrans like we do at Market, we’re sure the efforts won’ t be half-baked!” Sarah smiled.

Anyone wanting to create a birthday cake must register their entry by end of day, Friday 1 March 2024.
