In between the hustle and bustle of the end of financial year, we took some time out to let you know some of the important changes happening in social media, and how it might impact you.
Have you noticed changes to your Facebook feed? While users will see more updates from friends and family, pages may see a decline in their reach and referral traffic. No need to head to panic stations just yet as “the specific impact on your Page’s distribution and other metrics may vary depending on the composition of your audience. For example, if a lot of your referral traffic is the result of people sharing your content and their friends liking and commenting on it, there will be less of an impact than if the majority of your traffic comes directly through Page posts.” What should you do? Keep posting content you think your audience wants to engage with. Easy peasy!
360 Photos arrived on Facebook, and the results are beautiful.
Rumor has it that Facebook is testing a new way for you to transfer and request money to and from your pals via Messenger. If they pull it off, it will totally change the bickering that goes down in Buy, Swap, Sell groups!
Have certain sites you wouldn’t want your Facebook ads appearing on? Business Manager is rolling out the option to create a “block list” when you’re selecting your Audience Network placement. It hasn’t shown up on ours yet, but we’re definitely eager to see it roll out!
Another Facebook feature we might have to wait out on – “Fundraisers”, a dedicated page set up by users that allows supporters to “share their story, tell others about a nonprofit’s mission, and rally around a fundraising goal”. Sounds a little like GoFundMe, but making it easier for people to give can only be a good thing.
Twitter has released a Twitter dashboard for US-based businesses, and so far, it looks like it will be a pretty useful tool for scheduling, measuring and monitoring everything related to your Twitter account.
Something beautiful is bound to happen when Pinterest marketers combine their own business data with the user data Pinterest collects. We’re talking customer list re-targeting, website visitor retargeting and lookalike targeting. It’s currently available for Pinterest’s Marketing Developer Partners, but it’s certainly a move in the right direction.
YouTube are making it easier for people to live stream what they’re up to, right from within their app.
One in four. That’s the number of face-to-face conversations we’re having where we mention something we’ve seen online. With social content now referenced in 5.4% of all word-0f-mouth conversations about brands, and websites at 6.3%, you know it’s important to be focusing on your online content.
