MEDIA RELEASE – 14 April 2010

There’s a new reason to visit the popular Illawarra Fly Treetop Walk with the introduction of spectacular new Sunrise Walks.

Located in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales, less than two hours from Sydney or Canberra, Illawarra Fly offers a unique way to experience the rainforest andbreathtaking views of the Illawarra Escarpment. And starting Saturday 8 May, visitors can take a Sunrise Walk to experience the amazing views as the sun rises.

“We’ve had many requests for Illawarra Fly to open early in the morning because of the beautiful light the sun casts over the landscape as it rises. It is truly magic and we expect the new Sunrise Walks to be quite popular,” said Illawarra Fly General Manager, Sean Haylan.

“At sunrise the views are not only amazing but the birds and local wildlife are quite active too. There’s not many places in Australia where you can have this kind of rainforest experience at dawn,” he continued.

Visitors can walk the 500 metre walk in the treetop canopy, some 20-30 metres abovethe ground which opens to breathtaking views from the escarpment over the Illawarra and on to the sea. Sunrise Walks will take place on the second Saturday of every month, starting Saturday 8 May, and run for three hours from 6 – 9am, with times varying slightly depending on the time of year. Visitors will take the hosted Sunrise Walk with a guide followed by a delicious hot buffet breakfast at Cafe 106. Numbers are limited and bookings are essential. Sunrise Walks cost $50 per person, including breakfast, and a 10% discount is offered to groups of ten or more.

“Getting out of bed to see the sunrise over Australia’s coastline has never felt so good!,” Sean concluded.
