Seeing Machines, a locally-based world leader in Artificial Intelligence (AI) enabled driver monitoring technology, has been awarded the prestigious ACT Exporter of the Year Award.

“The ACT is establishing a reputation for punching well above its weight as an exporter in key capability sectors such as technology, cyber-security and ecommerce. Today’s Chief Minister’s ACT Export Awards luncheon showcased Canberra’s growing high tech export sector,” Canberra Business chamber CEO Dr Michael Schaper said today.

“The Export Awards are about celebrating the innovation, hard work and success of ACT businesses in reaching new global markets.

“These businesses are generating new job opportunities, career growth, income and additional skills to Canberra and the capital region. They’re helping to diversify our economy and turn our city into a truly entrepreneurial community.”

In 2018, Canberra businesses exported over $2.2 billion of products and services, a 10% increase over the previous year.

Seeing Machines was one of 15 businesses whose export success was recognised at the Awards. Each of these category winners will go on to represent the ACT at the National Export Awards, with the winners to be announced on 3 December 2019 at Parliament House. Last year, local ACT Exporter of the Year, Aspen Medical, went on to be named as the national winner – the first time a Canberra firm had taken out the award.

“The winners were chosen following a rigorous judging process, based on criteria that examined their export strategy, financial performance, scalability and business practices.”

“Perhaps most important was the story behind each exporting business. Seeing Machines was founded in Canberra, is a world leader in Artificial Intelligence monitoring technology and their entry told a compelling story of their journey as an ACT exporting business.”

“Canberra’s future is tied to developing a successful exporting sector, backed up by our international air links and local support. These are the firms who are already building the foundations of our future prosperity, and they all deserve to be congratulated,” Dr Schaper said.

2018 ACT and Australian Exporter of the Year, Aspen Medical, announced today that they will be launching a mentoring program for Canberra based businesses, in partnership with Canberra Business Chamber.
