Media Release – Thursday 5 September 2013

It’s time to go Retro as Canberra’s Old Bus Depot Markets host Retro Depot this October. This theme event is all about what’s retro cool, reviving the best of bygone eras and bringing it back to now.

This is the second run for Retro Depot, which was launched as the markets’ new theme event back in April this year. And Retro Depot in October, to be held on Sunday 13 October, will be even bigger than the inaugural event.

“This market really is a celebration of all things retro – we’re talking fashion, home wares, furniture, jewellery and accessories of old that have been revived, or transformed somehow, into items that will look fantastic in any home today,” said Old Bus Depot Markets Director, Diane Hinds.

“There’s so much to like about retro items – bright colours, crazy designs and interesting fabrics all whilst being rather practical. We’ll have so many cool retro items on offer, each with their own story to tell,” she continued.

Retro Depot in October will include such things as funky mid century ceramics, art glass, furniture, lamp shades, clothing, retro cufflinks, rare art nouveau and collectable vinyl records from the 60s, 70s and 80s.

Geordie Ferguson of Stellen Studio will be there with his restored mid century furniture. Geordie is a Canberran upholsterer by trade and he designs, makes and restores Australian furniture specialising in Parker, Fler and Chiswell brands. His works include armchairs, TV chairs, side boards, coffee tables, dining chairs and day beds amongst other restored pieces which he makes from his own studio in Watson, Canberra.

Retro Depot in October at the Old Bus Depot Markets will be open from 10am to 4pm on Sunday 13 October and entry is free.  For more information visit www.obdm.com.au
