Media Release – 25 September 2012

The picturesque Snowy Mountains will be the setting for the ultimate test of skill, strength and endurance, the Upper Murray Challenge, on Saturday 6 October 2012.

Situated in the foothills west of Mount Kosciuszko, the Upper Murray Challenge involves three stages: a 38 kilometre mountain bike ride, a 26 kilometre paddle and a 25 kilometre run, with competitors able to participate as individuals, in relay teams, or for a single leg of the race.

It brings serious sports lovers, fitness fanatics and those out for a bit of active fun to the NSW Snowy Mountains for the ultimate sporting challenge in an alpine setting.  It’s the alpine setting that Peter Sheppard, Tourism Snowy Mountains CEO, says makes all the difference.

“The Snowies is naturally blessed with the perfect terrain and course layout for this kind of competition, from our mountain peaks to fast-flowing rivers,” said Peter.

“This event provides competitors with a challenge they wouldn’t find anywhere else, and it’s also just as exciting for spectators.”

The Upper Murray Challenge is part of the Mountains of Events, an exciting program of year-round events set in the spectacular Snowy Mountains.  Whether you are into music, physical challenges or good food and wine, there is something for everyone in the Snowy Mountains, whatever the season.
