Media Release – Tuesday 27 November 2012

The Old Bus Depot Markets are welcoming in the New Year with one of Canberra’s favourite shopping events, Portobello Road on Sunday 13 January 2013.

Portobello Road is always a hit with the market goers because it’s such an interactive market. Given the nature of Portobello Road with its element of search and discover, people love talking to collectors, stallholders and fellow customers about their finds,” said Diane Hinds, Old Bus Depot Markets Director.

Visitors will enjoy scouring the many aisles throughout the day to see what they will find. Treasures include antiques such as vintage tea sets, lace and fabrics, paintings, fun fashion finds and much more.

“People are loving vintage pieces at the moment, whether it is to decorate their homes, or to wear as accessories, and there’s always plenty where that came from at Portobello Road,” continued Diane.

Each Portobello Road event is different and the treasures you find will vary every time. From items such as decorative art and fine silver to restored furniture and eye catching jewellery, the possibilities are endless at Portobello Road.

Stallholders Philip and Julie Chapman from Charlie Foxtrot in Bowral will be bringing some of the best of their mid-century vintage items to Portobello Road. From vintage cufflinks and letterpress wood printing blocks to Bakelite telephones, the range from Charlie Foxtrot is inspired by the young men and women who served in the Battle of Britain in the summer of 1940.

Portobello Road at the Old Bus Depot Markets will be open from 10am to 4pm on Sunday 13 January 2013.  Entry is free.  For more information visit www.obdm.com.au
