MEDIA RELEASE – 16 September 2009

Canberra’s home of quality produce, Manuka Fine Foods, was significantly damaged from a fire that started in its Palmerston Lane store in Manuka on the evening of Tuesday 1st September.

Plans are already underway to rebuild the damaged store to minimise the impact to customers and trading.

Business owner Shelley Thomson described the incident as a major setback to trade after a very busy last few months in the store.

“The last few months of trade have been very busy for us at the store and it’s had a significant impact on us. You don’t expect these events to happen to you, but the most important aspect is that we are still all in one piece and nobody was hurt,” Ms Thomson said.

“Our job now is to get the store back into shape and we are making every effort to get it back up and running as quickly as possible.

“I have been personally overwhelmed with the support and phone calls from all of our customers and suppliers who have found out about the fire.

“Over the next few weeks we will be working with everyone in our business to get things back on track. We are committed to getting the doors open at Manuka Fine Foods and welcoming everyone back as soon as possible,” she said.

Manuka Fine Foodsis located in Palmerston Lane in Manuka and normal trading hours will resume as soon as possible – please check the website for more information at www.manukafinefoods.com.au
