Media Release – Thursday 26 June 2014

You’d have to be living under a rock to have not heard about the huge snowfalls that finally hit the NSW Alpine regions this week. Big dumps. The ‘mega blizzard’. Yes it has happened – Thredbo really has some snow worth writing about and is ready and raring for a fantastic snow season.

“As usual, when the weather changes, it changes quickly here in Thredbo. We have just gone from a very warm and slow start to the 2014 season, to what could end up being the best July school holidays that we have seen snow-wise in ten years,” said Ian Foster, General Manager of The Lantern Property Group which operates Lantern Apartments, Lhotsky Apartments and Elevation Apartments amongst others.

According to Thredbo’s detailed weather report there are trails of deep fresh snow right across the mountain and the village is looking white and ready for snow play. The Thredbo area has received 90cm of snow fall in the last seven days.

“The forecast is also tipping another storm of close to similar proportions coming in for this weekend that could possibly see another 40-50 centimetres of snow by Monday.

“If we do get this second storm then it will well and truly set things p for the rest of July,” Ian continued.

If visitors want to head to Thredbo last minute to take advantage of these awesome snow falls, The Lantern Property Group still  has some vacancies on weekends and mid weeks right throughout July in everything from one bedroom apartments, to larger four bedroom properties.

“We’ve got lots of new properties available for letting this season and now is a great time to book and see Thredbo at its very best,” Ian concluded.
