Flix in the Stix is coming to Canberra for the first time ever in February 2011 featuring one of Australia’s most acclaimed singer/songwriters, Mark Seymour to perform live on-stage. The Canberra Flix event, supported by Country Energy, is the 6th & final leg of the Spring/Summer Flix tour of regional NSW and will be staged at the Australian National Botanic Gardens on Saturday 26th February, 2011.

Incorporating quality film & live music, Flix in the Stix is one of, if not the most unique events touring regional areas and has been doing so since launching back in January, 2009 at the Parkes Elvis Festival. Originally skewed heavily towards film, the production is now all about creating a memorable experience through complimentary film & music. The one constant throughout the two years and almost 20 separate events has been the use of beautiful venues and Canberra is no different.

The Canberra Flix event will feature short films from Australia & abroad, many award winning, screened on a giant airscreen on the Eucalypt Lawn of the Australian National Botanic Gardens. Former Hunters & Collectors frontman, Mark Seymour will also play two live sets in between the short films. “It’s the way movies & music were meant to be enjoyed – dining out under the stars with friends & family” said Promoter Simon Rollin of Mojo Events & Promotions. “However for this tour we have taken Flix to a whole new level with the inclusion of Mark Seymour. Its around 3.5 hours of quality entertainment which we know people are blown away by – given that’s been the response form our first two events staged in Armidale & Port Macquarie” Mr Rollin continued.

The Flix in the Stix short film collections span all genres and are suitable for a family audience. The feature short film “Dark Side of the Lens”, shot in Northern Ireland by renowned documentarian of the heavy salt, Mickey Smith won “Best Short Film” at both the 2010 New York & Canadian Surf Film Festivals and is a film simply oozing with character and passion.

Mark Seymour is internationally regarded as one of Australia’s best musicians. Since making his name as the lead singer of Hunters & Collectors, Mark has enjoyed a stellar career as a singer and acoustic guitarist. Mark Seymour’s music and lyrics have formed an indelible part of Australia’s musical songbook.

The Canberra Flix event concludes a Flix in the Stix tour that has seen visits to Armidale, Port Macquarie, Dubbo, Orange, Albury & the nation’s capital. Weather has already played its part, however has not, and will not, stop any show going ahead. Indoor venues have been secured for all events and in case of bad weather the show still goes on albeit with a more intimate feel, but just as memorable experience.

All patrons are encouraged to pack a picnic and their favourite camping chair for the event, however patrons should be aware it involves a short 5-7min stroll from the carpark to the Eucalypt Lawns (its downhill on the way back to the car!!).
