In a first for Underground Spirits, and indeed any distillery in the Canberra region, Canberra’s premium sprits producer and the spirit of Canberra today announced they are now offering Canberra’s first ever lakeside gin experience this summer.
“Our new Underground Spirits Urban Distillery Experience takes place at the Canberra and Region Visitors Centre on the edge of Lake Burley Griffin during summer 2020/21,” said Underground Spirits’ CEO, Claudia Roughley.
“After the year we’ve all had, who can think of anything better than learning to make cocktails, sipping on G&Ts, hearing the history of local Canberra gin making, all while overlooking Canberra’s iconic Lake Burley Griffin in the summer sunshine,” Claudia continued.
The announcement comes after what has been a very challenging year for the tourism and hospitality sectors in general. Having pivoted rapidly to support frontline medical workers with hand sanitiser production and supply when the Covid-19 pandemic hit, the Underground team wanted to refresh their offering by providing a new summer drinks and tourism experience for both locals and visitors to enjoy. Claudia said she is thrilled about collaborating with the team at the Canberra and Region Visitors Centre, and finding such a beautiful space for visitors to pop in and talk to the Underground Spirits team.
“This is a specialty tasting bar collaboration, offering Canberrans and visitors alike the chance to take part in one (or perhaps even two!) of two small group immersive gin masterclasses featuring our award-winning premium spirits range, with unsurpassed views of Lake Burley Griffin and Canberra’s major attractions.
“Our masterclasses take place in a beautiful setting adorned with Australian florals and botanicals, our special instagrammable spot, a beautifully illustrated mural explaining our gin making process, with a seated area to enjoy your tasting experience. You will be guided by Underground’s experienced staff and mixologists,” Claudia continued.
Underground Spirits revealed they are offering two unique Urban Distillery Experiences. The Spirit of Canberra – Underground Experience is an immersive experience sharing Underground Spirits’ history, the history of gin, production processes and botanicals, plus an exploration of the G&T and how to perfect it. Underground Spirits Mixed Up! Tasting & Cocktail Masterclass is a longer session whereby guests join a mixologist for a cocktail making demo and tasting. Both experiences include sample tastings and drinks.
“Most Australians are staying home this year, exploring their own backyard and appreciating the many skilled makers and products we produce here. This will be a wonderful experience for visitors to enjoy a premium Canberra-made product and meet the makers all in stunning surrounds,” Claudia concluded.
