One of Canberra’s most iconic streets, Lonsdale Street in Braddon, has just welcomed a new café to the neighbourhood, with the new On Lonsdale, officially opened today.

On Lonsdale was officially opened by the ACT Chief Minister and Member for Braddon, Andrew Barr, who joined On Lonsdale owners Lachlan Exton and Maheer Prasad, together with their Chef Cho Yoon – the same team behind Dickson’s refreshed cafe Highroad. As part of the opening fun, they offered the Chief Minister his first taste of their specialty, a Korean-inspired sando.

“This really is our point of difference – Korean-inspired sandos right here in Canberra. They’re not found widely in this style and we’re so excited to be bringing this new approach to breakfast or lunch to a place we just love – Braddon,” said Lachlan Exton, one half of On Lonsdale’s new management team.

“What’s a sando? It’s a blend of both traditional and innovative flavours with cloud-like shokupan milk bread baked locally in nearby Dickson.

“Myself and co-owner Maheer, together with our Chef Cho Yoon, travelled to Korea earlier this year for some serious sando inspiration and to uncover the kinds of flavours that we feel will really appeal to Canberrans. The result is really delicious comfort food, and a Korean inspired alternative to traditional Australian sandwiches,” Lachlan continued.

All sandos are packed with locally sourced ingredients and include such tasty offerings as Nanban Chicken Sando (soft-fried sweet soy chicken, chunky tartare and yuzu aioli); Seoul Bulgogi Sando (all beef bulgogi patty, Ssamjang, soy-pickled onion and garlic chips); and Sando-O-Fish (house-made fish patty, American cheddar, chunky tartare, lettuce, dill pickle and yuzu aioli). On Lonsdale also serves award-winning ONA Coffee and other delicious morsels for breakfast and lunch including rice bowls, poke bowls and interesting sides including ‘Shake On’ Lonsdale chips.

Minister Andrew Barr today also spoke to the important role of small, locally-owned businesses and hospitality venues in Braddon, something Lachlan and Maheer also value with plans to open more venues in the future.

“We can’t wait to welcome Canberrans in for a sando, a quick bite or a leisurely coffee break. And watch this space for what else we’re up to in future,” concluded Lachlan.

On Lonsdale is now open at 23 Lonsdale Street in Braddon, open Monday to Friday 6.30am – 3.30pm, and on weekends 7.00am – 4.00pm. For more information, visit www.onlonsdale.com.au
