After five years of study, internships, and more essays than I can remember, I have taken a deep breath and stepped into the marketing world. In my first Threesides blog post, I provide some insight into what it’s like to work for a marketing agency.

The scariest thing: the phone. It has a cord. It has a transfer facility. There is a phone on every desk in the office. I have been under the impression people only communicate with Facebook, or via their Smart Phones. So on my first week here, I learnt how to speak…

It was awesome.

What to expect when you start work in a marketing firm?

Pace.

I wore my runners on the first day. Literally (although, they did clash with my skinny jeans #trendsetter).
University is hard, you have 2 or 3 weeks to write a blog, and it will never be published… ever. Right now, I’m squeezing this blog in between some design and coordination work. Caffeine is a necessity in this world; fortunately, I developed a taste for coffee 2 years ago, but still don’t know the difference between a flat white and a latte.

I digress…
Respect.

Although I am still battling through University, the Threesides team have given me a tremendous amount of respect and trust from day one. This respect has given me a great deal of pride and ownership of any marketing or coordination work that is thrown my way.
Giving a ‘creative mind’ a brief, but allowing them freedom in its delivery can really increase their passion to go above and beyond.
Education.

The sort of real world education that you can’t find in a textbook. The people who are marketing, designing and advertising every day hold copious amounts of knowledge. Even small hints and tips from a marketing professional can make the difference between you being content with your marketing plan or being absolutely stoked. Every time I sit next to a different person at Threesides, I know I’ll get to see a different angle. Threesides has tech nerds, managers, bloggers, caffeine driven creatives and financial experts.
It’s awesome, it’s fast, and you do feel pretty good when you are able to take ownership of a project and see it through to delivery.

All in all, I would thoroughly recommend wearing runners and skinny jeans.
