Media Release – Wednesday 20 March 2013

The Old Bus Depot Markets in Canberra is gearing up for A Celebration of Wool on Sunday 19 May 2013, an event which shines the spotlight on our favourite fabric and which also celebrates innovative and stylish design.

A local favourite, this popular annual theme event promises to showcase all of the finest wool products the region has to offer. Think colourful designs, interesting statement pieces and stylish clothing, all unique and exclusively available from our stallholders.

“Visitors can see hand spinning, learn about how the products are made, and purchase spectacular woollen pieces that they won’t find in stores,” said Old Bus Depot Markets Director, Diane Hinds.

“You can meet and speak to the stallholders — including craftspeople, artists and wool producers — about their wares and find out what’s so special about this wonderful textile,” she continued.

Visitors will be in awe of the fashion on show. Hats, gloves, beanies, clothing and everything you need to not only keep stylish, but also keep warm – just in time for winter. That includes Carrie Webster and Michelle Law from Fibre Webs who will have an array of hand dyed yarn and specialist wool on show in up-to-the-minute shades of autumn/winter from classic reds to sugared pinks.

From fine merino items and millinery, to handspun yarn and socks, you’ll find plenty of ways to accessorise and look chic this winter.

And really, next to huddling up to a loved one with a hot chocolate in hand, what better way is there to keep warm than being sheltered by superior Aussie wool, especially when it’s a one-of-a-kind piece?

A Celebration of Wool at the Old Bus Depot Markets will be open from 10am to 4pm on Sunday 19 May 2013 and entry is free.  For more information visit www.obdm.com.au
