Media Release – Wednesday 5 March 2014

The Old Bus Depot Markets are bringing back their popular Retro Depot event on Sunday 16 March, with this one promising to be a cracker.

“Retro Depot is a chance for our market-goers to indulge in their love of everything retro cool with fashion, homewares, furniture, jewellery, accessories and much more,” said Diane Hinds, Director of the Old Bus Depot Markets.

“Visitors can admire and buy interesting mid-century furniture and homewares. They might find a Fler sofa or a George Nelson clock. And for those that like swing, there will be loads of gorgeous fashion on the day.

“It’s all about taking you back to your favourite era and bringing some delicious retro vibes back into your life,” Diane continued.

Some of the stallholders at Retro Depot include locals Mel O’Brien of Librarian Chic with her retro and vintage clothing and accessories, and Irina McKillop from Ritzy Bits with her range of antiques and collectables, and furniture including retro sofas, arm chairs and coffee tables.

Geordie Ferguson of Stellen Studio will also be there with his restored and mid century furniture. Geordie is a Canberra upholsterer by trade and he designs, makes and restores Australian furniture specialising in Parker, Fler and Chiswell. He will also have a few retro bicycles for sale at the Markets.

And it’s not just the locals who relish the retro. Philip Chapman will travel from the Southern Highlands to the Markets with a great range of retro items from his Charlie Foxtrot range which can include items such as old typewriters, Bakelite telephones and vintage brownie cameras.

And a reminder that the markets are still undergoing works for the new leak proof roof. The market continues to trade with the lower level open as usual, and trading is also taking place in the heritage listed Fitter’s Workshop, located next door to the market, as well as the new Lakeside Gallery.

“Our visitors are really enjoying the change of scenery and we’ve been thrilled at the positive responses to date. Come in and check out our new look on Retro Depot day,” Diane concluded.

Retro Depot will be open Sunday 16 March from 10am to 4pm. Entry is free. For more information on the Old Bus Depot Markets go to www.obdm.com.au
