Media Release – Monday 22 October 2012

Christmas is now just two months away so it’s time to start stocking up on decorations, gifts and Christmas cheer, and what better place to get started than Canberra’s premier market destination, the Old Bus Depot Markets in Kingston.

The Old Bus Depot Markets will be open every Saturday and Sunday in December in the lead up to the big day, with each market promising to be abuzz with Christmas spirit. The first in the series of special Christmas markets will take place on Saturday 1 December 2012.

“Our Christmas markets are a breath of fresh air, literally, to crowded shopping malls. With a huge array of unique gifts made carefully by hand, you’ll find presents and decorations with both meaning and longevity,” said Old Bus Depot Markets Director, Diane Hinds.

“The Christmas markets always offer a delightfully festive ambiance with cheerful stallholders getting into the spirit of things. You’ll find warm spiced drinks, live music, as well as the distinctive aroma of Christmas, including the delicious smells of shortbread, mince tarts and scented candles,” Diane continued.

At each of the Christmas markets, visitors can leaf through the stalls offering gorgeous handcrafted, personalised homewares for the season. From hand carved decorations and Christmas cards to live Christmas trees, wreaths and table centrepieces, all of your Christmas decorating needs can be found under the one roof.

And foodies will love the spread available including mince tarts, shortbread, Christmas cakes, miniature gingerbread houses, puddings, pan forte, traditional Russian fruit and walnut log and macarons, all inspired by the flavours of Christmas.
