MEDIA RELEASE – 5 October 2010

Canberra’s national award winning markets, the Old Bus Depot Markets, in partnership with a local solar company, are installing solar panels on their roof just in time for the inaugural Green Savvy Sunday on Sunday 17 October.

“We’re getting into the spirit of Green Savvy Sunday by taking a look out ourselves and how we can make the markets more sustainable,” said Old Bus Depot Markets co-owner, Diane Hinds.

“Getting a solar setup means we can harness the sun’s energy, making the markets truly carbon neutral for the day,” she continued.

The panels will be installed by local company, Armada Solar, Canberra’s solar provider which specialises in the installation of grid connected solar energy systems. As part of the Green Savvy Speakers program Philip Brown, Sales Manager at Armada Solar, will be talking to the public about Canberra’s solar revolution and will discuss the economics of solar, what is involved with putting solar in your house, what the different technologies are, and how to make the best choice.

“Armada Solar are pleased to be involved in the inaugural Green Savvy Sunday and look forward to enabling the markets to use clean, green energy through our solar energy systems,” said Philip Brown.

Other specialist green groups, environmentally friendly organisations and stallholders with green products taking part in the day include Ecolour, climate friendly, carbon neutral and non toxic paints; Greenhouse Emporium, a one stop shop in Fyshwick for the householders green needs including solar power, irrigation, rainwater tanks, garden equipment; and ClimateXChange which provides access to the latest information and views on climate change and sustainability.
