Media Release – Wednesday 2 April 2014

The Old Bus Depot Markets is inviting Canberrans and visitors to the capital to spend Easter Sunday with them for the second annual Portobello Road event, on Sunday 20 April.

“Easter is just around the corner and we’d love people to hop in like the Easter bunny and check out Portobello Road,” said Old Bus Depot Markets Director, Morna Whiting.

“After indulging with all your yummy chocolate Easter eggs, take a break from the treats and come to the markets to browse your way through the aisles of collectables and small antiques at Portobello Road.  It really is the best day to come and search for some really fun and interesting collectables.

“And this Portobello Road event will be bigger and better than the others, because for this special event the stallholders will bring out their unique, valuable and stunning treasures,” Morna continued

And to add to the Easter atmosphere, some of our favourite food stallholders will have Easter treats for sale including Easter themed cupcakes, organic naturally dried fruit hot cross buns by Dream Cuisine, and fair trade handcrafted Easter Bunnies, handpainted Easter eggs and special bunnies filled with praline by Patisserie Valerie.

Portobello Road will have around 25 additional stallholders, with everything available from art glass, china, an 1844 solid silver teapot, linens to funky lamp shades, retro decorative arts, antique jewellery, tea trolleys, collector Persian carpets, Australian Pedigree Dolls, old trunks and  an eclectic mix of small furniture.  It’s a real mix of treasures.

Stallholders will be a mix of locals and visitors from the region, as well as some from Sydney.

Morna would also like to remind people that the current building works are on track, with plans to relocate back into the original Old Bus Depot Markets building on at the beginning of May.

“Meanwhile, we are loving our temporary set up in the magnificent Fitters Workshop,” Morna concluded.

Portobello Road will be open on Easter Sunday, Sunday 20 April from 10am to 4pm. Entry is free. For more information on the Old Bus Depot Markets go to www.obdm.com.au
