Media Release – Wednesday 5 June 2013

Get set to browse your way through the aisles of collectables and small antiques in Canberra this August as the national capital’s famed Sunday market, the Old Bus Depot Markets, is playing host to its third and final Portobello Road event for 2013.

Held on Sunday 11 August, Portobello Road will have everything from old wares and collectables to linen and lace.

“This particular market is great if you love trawling the aisles to see what kinds of period antiques and interesting decorative pieces you can find,” said Old Bus Depot Markets Director, Diane Hinds.

“The fun is in the hunt as you just never know what kinds of interesting things might pop up.

“Nowadays old treasures become today’s homewares that brighten the home and add pizazz, and this market is perfect to help you find some great little items and peculiar and quirky treasures.

“It’s the third and final Portobello Road for the year and it’s sure to be a good one with tea cups and saucers, small antiques, pictures, funky lamp shades, and old fabrics and many other unique pieces,” she continued.

At Portobello Road you’ll find a vast array of vintage pieces from retro decorative arts, vintage clothing and fine silver, small antique furniture and restored pieces.

Ian Bembrick from Auchinachie Antiques will be at the market with a range of rare Australian and world coins and bank notes, as well as antique sewing tools including lace bobbins, ivory sewing tools, scissors, needle and ribbon holders and more. You’ll also find a selection of antique oil and kerosene lamps from John Gannon.

“Every one of our Portobello Road events is different and the products always change, so visitors are bound to find something fresh, interesting and sometimes even collectable,” Diane concluded.
