Media Release – 5 July 2011

The award-winning Old Bus Depot Markets in Canberra will share its many treasures, from old wares and collectables to linen and lace, at the upcoming Portobello Road event on Sunday 14 August.

“If you love the magic of ‘the hunt’, you’ll love milling around the many stalls full of quirky pieces and interesting curios,” said Old Bus Depot Markets Co-owner, Diane Hinds

“There is a real revival of home decorating using finds from markets like ours. Vintage lace, bits of old fabric, small antiques, pictures, and basically anything old that’s not made any more is back in fashion. And Portobello Road is a great place to start your search.

“Goods change at every event, so there’s always something fresh, something fabulously interesting and collectable,” she continued.

Portobello Road presents a huge variety of items including linens and lace, retro decorative arts, vintage clothing, fine silver, small antique furniture and restored pieces. There’s always something to catch the eye and visitors can speak with experienced dealers throughout the day.

Canberra’s very own ‘modern hunter-gatherer’, Elizabeth Lobascher, will be at the event with an interesting and eclectic range of goods she’s sourced throughout her travels via private sales, garage sales and trash and treasures. She’s a market regular who also attends on the fourth Sunday of each month with her myriad collectables. At Portobello Road Elizabeth invites visitors to browse her range of old wares, jewellery, china, glass, crystal, linen, lace and other collectables.

Portobello Road at the Old Bus Depot Markets will be open from 10am to 4pm on Sunday 14 August and entry is free. For more information visit www.obdm.com.au
