The Old Bus Depot Markets is getting set to host the tenth annual Creative Fibre event, to be held next Sunday 13 July.

“This is one of our most popular theme days of the year as it always showcases some of the Canberra region’s most talented fibre and textile artists,” said Old Bus Depot Markets Director, Diane Hinds.

“Creative Fibre is always such a great opportunity for the community to engage with the region’s fibre and textile artists – people who design, print on fabric, weave, make baskets, knit and hand dye fabric.

“People can browse and buy beautifully handcrafted home wares and clothing, and it’s a great day out for visitors to immerse themselves in the creativity of the region’s most talented textile artists,” Diane continued.

New to Creative Fibre this year is Wendy Voon Knits. This contemporary knitwear label’s designs have been described as sculptural and architectural. Wendy will have her range of women’s knitwear available including scarves, jumpers and wraps.

For something completely different, you can browse and buy indigenous fibre arts from remote communities in central Australia with works from On the Stone. On the Stone supports the work of remote indigenous art centres and will have a range of Tjanpi Weaver’s baskets and woven creature sculptures for sale at Creative Fibre.

And for something a little closer to home, Marie Nicole Roberts will be a part of Creative Fibre for the first time this year. Hailing from Yass, she will have artisan-based works using linen, leather and wool. Her items include repurposed woollen blankets, leather wrist bands and cuffs, leather cases, totes, phone and computer sleeves, journal covers and more.

Visitors to Creative Fibre can also engage with and see the works of many local and regional textiles groups including the ACT Textile Art Association; ANU School of Art, Textiles School; Canberra Quilters; Canberra Region Felters and the Canberra Spinners and Weavers.

“For anyone who loves textiles, the different colours, various textures, and amazing things that very talented fibre and textile artists can create with their hands, Creative Fibre is not to be missed,” concluded Diane.

Creative Fibre is on Sunday 13 July from 10am to 4pm. Entry is free. For more information on the Old Bus Depot Markets go to www.obdm.com.au
