Media Release – Tuesday 3 December 2013

To coincide with the launch of the inaugural Thredbo Cannonball Mountain Bike Festival, some of Australia’s best known mountain bike professionals will christen Makin Trax Basecamp. The Basecamp is a mountain biker’s dream built by Makin Trax, one of Australia’s leading mountain bike trail builders.

As part of Thredbo’s Cannonball MTB Festival, competitors Ben Cory, Rick Boyer, Graeme Mudd, Robert Mudd and Tim Kymetyk will officially christen Makin Trax Basecamp, a five bedroom mountain lodge in the heart of Thredbo NSW.

“Makin Trax is a name synonymous with the creation of the world famous mountain bike trails of Stromlo Forest Park in Canberra.” said Darren Stewart, owner and founder of Makin Trax.

“With the launch of Basecamp, we’re extending our passion for creating extraordinary mountain bike experiences by offering riders the ultimate in group accommodation right on the doorstep of so many riding opportunities in Thredbo and Kosciusko National Park.

“It makes sense that Makin Trax takes a step into the travel and leisure sector with the opening of Makin Trax Basecamp for Thredbo’s Summer Riding season.

“Our whole business is about creating extraordinary experiences for people, in beautiful natural environments, and this is a just extension of that philosophy. This is the first of hopefully many Basecamps in Australia and maybe the world, where people can stay and have an extraordinary experience in nature with their friends and family,” Darren continued.

Claire Whiteman, 2009 Australian Downhill Champion who is this year taking time away from competition to focus on her and Ben Cory’s new son, said “Makin Trax has always been an enthusiastic and passionate supporter of our sport, and Makin Trax Basecamp is the perfect base for our crew of riders to do their best at Thredbo’s inaugural Cannonball MTB Festival. Right in the heart of some of Australia’s best riding I’m sure it will become a crowd favourite – what mountain biker wouldn’t want to stay where the pros stay in the heart of some of Australia’s best mountain biking terrain.”

The Makin Trax Basecamp is the ideal place for friends and family to park the bike after a big day on the mountain, and is now officially open for the summer riding season at Thredbo. For reservations and more information call 1300 669 167 or www.makintraxbasecamp.com.au
