A gourmet pie producer, an olive grower and a saltbush lamb and free range pork specialist were just some of winners of the second Capital Region Farmers Market People’s Choice Stallholder Awards, announced at the Market on Saturday 27 October 2012.
The awards were established to recognise the efforts of the stallholders who are at the heart of Canberra’s vibrant, popular and rapidly growing Saturday morning Market. The winners were selected by Market customers across nine categories.
“The awards are the perfect way of recognising the outstanding efforts of the stallholders at the Capital Region Farmers Market,’” said Farmers Market spokesperson, Tony Howard.
“We would like to thank stallholders for participating in the awards and our customers for taking the time to vote and let us know their favourites.”
The winners for the 2012 awards are:
Best Coffee, Tea & Hot Drinks: Wagonga Coffee

Best Gourmet, Fine Food & Smallgoods: Homeleigh Grove
Producers of a range of quality olive based products, including extra virgin olive oils and table olives

Growers of tasty, top quality mushrooms, including white button, Swiss brown and Portobello
Best Fruit & Nuts: Hillside Orchard
The harvest from Hillside Orchard includes crispy apples, juicy pears, sweet berries and more
Best Meat, Poultry & Seafood: Bundawarrah
Specialists in free range pork and saltbush lamb products
Best Baked Goods: Amore Cakes
Renowned for a wide range of delicious, homemade cakes, tarts, muffins and slices
Best Flowers, Plants & Garden: Canberra Colour
Offer a great selection of cut and potted flowers, plants and herbs
Best Dairy, Honey & Eggs: Country Valley Highland Organics
Award winning bottled milk, yoghurt and cream, produced with 100% organic milk
Best Onsite Readymade Meals & Hot Food: Gum Tree Pies
Gourmet pies produced with locally sourced and quality ingredients
