2020 has been highly unexpected. Like a Shane Warne flipper, the year came in hot with a devastating bushfire crisis before dealing the deceptively unforgiving bounce of a global pandemic, leaving us scratching our heads in disbelief.

But much like a game of cricket, one wicket doesn’t decide the match, and as Canberrans we need to pull on the pads and walk out to face whatever comes next. We need to support each other and get back out there.

This month the City Renewal Authority (CRA) has launched the Heart + Soul: Rediscover your city campaign, putting the spotlight on 11 local businesses in the city precinct.

The businesses featured as part of this campaign were:

As the ACT Government eases restrictions, the passionate and dedicated business owners and their teams – truly the heart and soul of the city – have returned to safely open doors and open minds (with physical distancing), to welcome you once again.

The campaign is encouraging Canberrans to reconnect with people, places and spaces within the city precinct, to support their favourite local businesses that have faced one of the toughest years in recent memory.

When you’re out rediscovering the city, please remember that we all have the responsibility to be COVID-safe. We all know what we should be doing when out in public, and please remember to follow any business-specific rules to ensure everyone can shop safely and respectfully.

As part of this multi-platform campaign, we assisted the City Renewal Authority with a range of tasks.

We produced short videos featuring some of Canberra’s favourite businesses, including Impact Comics:

Then we went around capturing brilliant photos to use on social media as well as for signage and posters around the city:

After conducting interviews with all the businesses featured, our senior content producer put together articles to be posted on the CRA website, accompanied with short and snappy copy for social media channels.

You can check out the CRA’s Heart + Soul campaign page here to read all about what they have done, or keep an eye on CRA and Threesides social media channels to keep up to date.
